My solution to connecting long distance friends in college.

3D prototype visualization made in SOLIDWORKS. Material is a gray soft silicone designed for a satisfying feel. The contours are form fitting to the user’s hand, making it easy to hold.

App prototype made in Figma, designed for the user to view their Pebble’s status, and add friends.

USER PROBLEM

When I don’t communicate with my long distance friends from home,

I feel lonely and disconnected,

as I try to find ways to keep in touch,

because it is hard to find time to talk and it’s hard to remind yourself to.

USER PROMISE

Pebble helps me stay connected to my friends across long distances,

Because only Pebble reminds me to contact my friends with soft light cues,

Now I feel more connected and in touch with my friends and in turn happier and healthier.

Conducted user research to gain insight on the user experience, if it was a viable solution, and potential improvements for my design.

User storyboard

Pebble’s form consists of a button with three features; press and hold to record, click once to send a message, and double click to re-record. In addition a mircophone on the end for playing and recording messages, and a light that displays Pebble’s status.

Previous App Design made during Design 166.

View your homepage layout for Pebble.

View your Pebble’s status.

View and send messages from your friends, and add them through the app.

Previous iterations of Pebble. Newest version has a better placed microphone that is not covered by the user’s hand, as well as the button where the user’s thumb would rest. I also redesigned the logo for a cleaner look that matched Pebble’s aesthetic, and stuck with grey as the sole color option.

Started with a low fidelity physical prototype made from clay.

Developed a more streamlined digital prototype, adjusted form to be more intuitive.

Relfection —

In the future, I would like to try to implement a lot more features on the product.

For example, I would love to add things like a charging station, have a light pulse for when Pebble receives a message, and of course design a prototype that actually has a working light in it.

Through this project I learned how to design things a lot more independently, and work through design challenges and technical difficulties on my own.
